ARTICLE ON DEAUVILLE

DEAUVILLE IS A GROUP 1 WINNING SON BY SIRE OF SIRES GALILEO OUT OF THE SIRE PRODUCING FEMALE FAMILY OF DESERT KING. DEAUVILLE IS BRED ON THE SAME CROSS AS FRANKEL AND FROM THE SAME FEMALE FAMILY AS FRANKEL AS WELL!

Sire. DEAUVILLE is by Galileo, a successful sire of sires with several of his sons producing Gr.1 winners including Teofilo, New Approach, Frankel and others. Having previously stood sons of world class stallions like Northern Dancer, Mr. Prospector and Danehill, Usha Stud was on the lookout for a worthy son of Galileo. In Deauville, Usha Stud found what it was looking for.

Dam: A very smart and talented performer who won at 5 furlongs and placed in a Group 3 at 9furlongs. From nine foals of racing age, she has had six starters and four winners including Deauville’s full-brother THE CORSICAN whom David Simcock trained to win the Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup Arc Trial, Gr.3 and 888sport Festival Stakes, L. The Corsican was officially rated 118; unfortunately, he died in training. Her other two winners are Absolute Soul and Heatstroke.

Immediate Family. Walklikeanegyptian is three-parts related to CALLWOOD DANCER(Nassau Stakes, Gr.2), Contredanse (Oaks d’Italia, Gr.2) and Set Sail (third in Juddmonte International Stakes, Gr.1). Their dam AHDAAB placed and is a half-sister to MAROOF (Champion Older Horse in Europe, 4 wins including Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Gr.1, sire), Sabaah (dam of DESERT KING, Champion Three Year Old in Europe, won Irish Derby, Gr.1, Irish 2000 Guineas, Gr.1, sire and CAIRDEASS, won High Chaparral EBF Moorebridge Stakes, Gr.3) and MAYAASA (grandam of Extra Zero, won Sycamore Sprint, Gr.3 in South Africa). The next dam, DISH DASH, won three races including Ribblesdale Stakes, Gr.2 and placed third in Yorkshire Oaks, Gr.1, etc. There is an impressive manifestation of class and versatility in the immediate family.

PEDIGREE: The highlight of Deauville’s pedigree is that not only is he bred on the same cross as Frankel but both the horses are from the same family. They both trace to Lady Wyfold’s Blue Hen mare Samovar. This is also the family of the dual Guineas winner Don’t Forget Me and Lord Zara — both sires of Classic winners in India — and Mtoto (King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, Gr.1 and sire of the Epsom Derby winner Shaamit) and others.

RACING CAREER

DEAUVILLE was the third Galileo foal of Walklikeanegyptian and he was obviously a bit special because the Coolmore trio of Mr. Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier and Mr D Smith bought a share and the colt moved to Ballydoyle to be trained by Aidan O’Brien. Deauville won the Gr.1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, Gr.1 in U.S.A., J.R.A. Tyros Stakes, Gr.3 andsportingbet.comHuxley Stakes, Gr.3 in England as well as his debut win in Ireland at Listowel. He placed in a dozen graded races including being 2nd in the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, Gr.2, Betfred Dante Stakes, Gr.2 and third in Queen Anne Stakes, Gr.1, Arlington Million, Gr.1, twice and Quipco Irish Champion Stakes, Gr.1. He earned a staggering amount of GBP 1,021,254 in stakes and had the Official Rating of 121 after his effort in the Queen Anne Stakes as a four year-old. At 5, he placed in Four Graded races including the Quipco Irish Champion Stakes, Gr.1 just three lengths off the battling pair of three year-old Roaring Lion and Saxon Warrior to whom he was giving weight.

Highlights. Deauville’s victory in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, Gr.1 was obviously the high point of his career. However, there are three other performances which are worthy of a mention:

1.In the sportingbet.com Huxley Stakes, Gr.3 at Chester he beat Poet’s Word by a neck at level weights. Poet’s Word ended up later with an Official Rating of 130 and currently stands as a stallion at Boardsmill Stud, Ireland.

2.He was just a length and a quarter and a neck behind Ribchester in the Queen Anne Stakes, Gr.1 at Ascot at level weights. Ribchester was later rated 126 and is today a Darley stallion standing at a fee of GBP 20,000.

3.Ulysses was just a length ahead of him in the Bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes, Gr.3 at Sandown when they both carried 9 st. Ulysses went on to be rated 126 and now holds court at Chevely Park Stud in Newmarket at fee of GBP 15,000.

Distance Aptitude. Deauville won over 1400 m to 2100 metres.

Going Preference: Deauville was very versatile as far as going preference is concerned, however he preferred firm going.

CONFORMATION AND TEMPERAMENT

Deauville is a beautiful walker, he is well-built, stands over 16 hands, and is muscular and handsome. He has a lovely temperament and is easy to handle.
